Project Overview
PROJECT TITLE: Digital Mapping for Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) Program
Award Dates: August 19, 2004 - December 31, 2007
PROJECT REFERENCE SPONSOR: Federal Railroad Administration
PROGRAM MANAGER and PROJECT MANAGER: William Thompson
PROJECT OBJECTIVE(S) The CREATE project is designed to improve railroad and highway traffic flow and reduce grade crossing hazards in the Chicago metropolitan area. The objectives of this project are to assist in the implementation of CREATE.
  1. To demonstrate the use of LIDAR digital mapping technology to gather the physical railroad corridor data that the operating railroads and public agencies will need to assess and design a network level rearrangement of intersecting railroad and highway routes in the Chicago metropolitan area.
  2. To process the LIDAR survey data, format it in a standard fashion suitable for use by all organizations involved in the CREATE project, and make the processed files available to CREATE participants.
