Project Overview
PROJECT TITLE: Freight Rail Security Grant Program
Award Dates: August 1, 2005 - March 31, 2008
PROJECT REFERENCE SPONSOR: Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
PROGRAM MANAGER: Nancy Wilson
PROJECT MANAGER: EWA IIT
PROJECT OBJECTIVE(S) The FY2005 Freight Rail Security Program:
  1. Development of a Rail Corridor Risk Management Tool (RCRMT): this project is focused on a web-based RCRMT for use by the Federal, State and local governments and private industry.
  2. Development of a Rail Corridor Hazmat Response and Recovery Tool (RCHRRT): this project is focused on the development of a web-based tool that would support assessment of routes based on risk, and will assist Federal, State and local emergency response and recovery agencies in allocating appropriate resources in the most needed TIH rail corridors and rail segments.
  3. Development and Demonstration of "Safe Haven" Concepts for In-Route Toxic Inhalation Hazard (TIH) Shipments: the concept of this project is to provide an enhanced level of security of "lock-down" facilities that handle bulk TIH shipments. The strategy will also focus on expediting the movement of trains carrying bulk TIH from lock-down facilities to customers' secured facilities or other rail lock-down facilities.
